Today I’m going to review something a little different. It’s a story, but it’s not really like any story I’ve read before. Alice and Kev is an online story in sixty parts which follows two characters in the game The Sims 3. I was sent the link by my partner who came across it on his internet forays and thought I might find it interesting. He was right.

Now anybody could write a story about the adventures and interactions their Sims characters get up to, however this particular story has a twist. The writer decided to experiment in the game by making Kev and his daughter Alice homeless, and to see how this would affect the Sims experience, both as a character and as the player.
The result is a compelling tale that at times is funny and at others is deeply poignant. It is incredible to see that even within a game how much of a disadvantage being homeless puts the characters at, particularly Alice who is a child for a significant proportion of the game. Put together rather like a graphic novel with screenshots and text telling the story, this is an incredibly original idea with really great message.
If you have some time to kill and have enjoy novelty, social issues, the Sims, games or graphic novels – set aside half an hour and try this out.
