Chicken in the City: Book 1

Children’s book about a chicken who has lost his memory

I received a copy of this book courtesy of the author.

Image is of “Chicken in the City” by C. L. Kovacik. The eBook cover is of a brown chicken standing in the middle of a city street.

“Chicken in the City” by C. L. Kovacik is a short children’s book about a young rooster who finds himself in a backyard with no memory of how he got there. After chatting to a squirrel and a possum, Chicken embarks on a journey to discover who he is and where he came from.

This is a quick, punchy book that explores an urban environment from the perspective of a domesticated chicken. I enjoyed the interactions between the different animals and Chicken’s gradual recovery of his memory.

I think my big feedback, based on my experience volunteering with Story Dogs over the past two years, is that for a book aimed at a demographic of 4 to 8 years old, it’d be good to have some illustrations throughout to help support the story.

A fun book for young kids to help them reimagine their backyards.
